--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Media Council for Children and Young People and the Danish game producers have agreed that Danish and Danish versioned computer games must in the future be labelled with Danish labels.
The system is developed by the computer and video game business in cooperation with The Media Council for Children and Young People.

There are three characteristic features concerning the Danish labelling system

  • It is self-regulatory. This means that the producer and/or distributor must label the games themselves. The Media Council for Children and Young People do not classify the products.

  • The age specification is based on a suitability classification with the objective of providing the consumers with information and instructions regarding the games´ level of difficulty.

  • The age specification is combined with other relevant consumer information.

What does the labelling consist of
After reading the instructions download the labels. The labels are ready to use and exist in two versions - one for Win and one for Mac - both in illustrator format.

The labelling consists of a module system of pictograms combined by an outer frame.
The pictograms consist of a pictogram and a box for specifications, which can be adjusted to the product.

There are two sizes - one for DVD boxes, jewel case and other boxes with the same measurements and one for larger boxes.

The size of the labels must be kept as they are in order to keep the same standards for the products. The sizes of the labels to be downloaded - are the exact sizes you need to use.

Where to place the labels
In the illustration you see the age specification, which should be placed on the front of the box in the lower left-hand corner.

In the illustration you see the age specification and other relevant consumer information which should be placed on the back of the box in the lower left-hand corner.

The pictograms are gathered in a box within a frame and in the lower part of the frame the web address of The Media Council for Children and Young People should be shown.

If there is a need for more than one piece of information in a box a double box is used.

What should always be shown on a box
Some of the pictograms should always be shown on the box.

The age specification should always be shown on the front.

Age, platform and the web address of The Media Council for Children and Young People: www.medieraadet.dk should be shown on the back.

Age and platform should be shown first. The order of any other information is optional.

Any other consumer information can be chosen freely in relation to what you find to be relevant for the specific game.

What do the various pictograms mean?
The background for labelling computer and video games is a wish to provide the consumers with relevant information regarding the product. You can write directly in the pictogram box with the correct font and adjust the information to your game.

Age
The labelling is based on a suitability classification operating with open standards e.g. 3-9 years old or 5-12 years old. Thus giving the consumers a clearer picture of which main target group the game is directed at.
This way of labelling differs considerably from that of videos. When labelling videos The Media Council for Children and Young People classifies the product and the classifications must be one of four already fixed categories. With the labelling of games you are able to provide the consumer with more varied information in connection to the product.
